What Can Be Done for Arthritis Pain?

Arthritis pain can be very debilitating and frustrating for the person who is suffering from it. It can make everyday tasks seem difficult and sometimes downright impossible. Learning how to cope with and handle arthritis and finding ways to work with it can help make those frustrations seem a little more manageable. The most common question asked when dealing with arthritis is “What should I take for my arthritis?” There is no simple answer to this question, as there are many factors that must be determined in order for your doctor to start making that decision. Many arthritis sufferers will try, in the beginning to treat themselves. While this may be alright in the beginning at some point it will not be enough. You should not try to do this indefinitely. Allow yourself a limited and reasonable amount of time to do this and then seek the advice of your doctor. People who suffer from arthritis want fast relief. They want to jump right in and go for the cure. You must be patient and allow your doctor to get a full understanding of your condition and find a method of treatment that will work for you.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krKs_vTFKVs

There is not one simple way to treat arthritis as there are more than 100 different forms and types. These are not all treated in the same manner and what has worked in treating one patient may not work in treating the next. Because of this, your doctor may have to adjust your medications several times and put you through several different treatment plans to find what will work for you. It is important to find a medication, treatment or combination of these that will help control your arthritis so that it does not impede your life. Be patient with yourself and your doctor during this time. Don’t get discouraged and let yourself become overwhelmed. As with any disease you have to go through the process to get to the end result of feeling and being better. Be honest with your doctor about your frustrations and let him guide you through your doubts and fears with his knowledge and expertise. In this you will also gain knowledge of your own and learn how to manage your arthritis pain and be active in finding works for you. Continuing to be an active participant in your treatment will help you to feel more confident in your situation and positive for a good outcome.

You can find several different ways to help in relieving your pain. There are numerous methods that doctors can try, and again it may come down to you need a combination of several of these things. Some of the things that can be tried and have proven to be effective are prescription pain medications, change in diet, physical therapy, natural remedies and alternative treatments. With some of these methods there are risks involved that should be taken seriously and into consideration. It is not as simple as just finding a cure. There actually is not a cure for most forms of arthritis. Many people assume and think also that because they have gone into remission that they are cured of their arthritis. This is not the case in the least bit. You could go years feeling great and having minimal if any symptoms only to have a flare up at random at some point in your remission. Be patient. You and your doctor will find a method that makes this disease bearable. You will find a way to survive through this and find relief from your arthritis pain.

Pain: has been scientifically defined as an unpleasant, emotional and sensory experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage. Ways of dealing with and overcoming this arthritis pain are many. Can everybody handle all of these different types of treatment? The answer is simply no. Some people do not have the physical stamina to withstand physical therapy, while others cannot take pain medications due to allergies. Whatever the case may be do not let it get you down. This is where your patience comes into play and allowing your doctor to know what is really going on with you becomes very important in the process of elimination. When you begin pursuing your options, be sure you know all the ups and downs, pros and cons and drawbacks of each individual method. Examples of some of these are as follows:

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): these medications include aspirin and ibuprofen that are used to reduce inflammation and pain.

Disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDS): used to treat people with rheumatoid arthritis who have not responded to NSAIDs. Such as methotrexate, hydroxychloroquine, penicillamine, and gold injections.

Corticosteroids: hormones that are very effective in treating arthritis such as Prednisone.

Weight reduction: extra pounds put added stress to weight bearing joints like the knees and hips.

Exercise: swimming, walking and low impact aerobics help to reduce joint pain and stiffness.

Surgery: some patients have this as their only option. This sometimes includes total replacement of joints.

You may find that just one of these in itself can be effective in reducing your arthritis pain. For others it may take a combination of several of these methods to do the trick. Being consistent with the orders your doctor gives you will help you to have a better outcome.

How Does Diet Affect My Arthritis and Joint Pain?

Chinese Medicine Explanation here: http://www.tcmecc.org/foodtherapy.htm

If you suffer from joint pain, it’s important that you learn all you can about arthritis and joint pain so you can work effectively with your health professional to manage the problem. One of the key concepts to master is proper nutrition: consuming a low-fat diet filled with foods together with supplements that decrease inflammation while supporting joint, cartilage, muscle and bone health.

A good diet can have significant and positive effects on joint pain in several ways. For example:

For women of normal height, losing as few as 11 pounds can cut the risk of developing knee osteoarthritis by 50 percent.1 On the other hand, if you already have knee arthritis, being just 10 pounds overweight increases the force on your knees by 30 to 60 pounds with each step. (Pick up a 60 pound weight and imagine what that must feel like on your joints!) Slimming down to your ideal weight can help reduce symptoms, especially joint pain.

Reducing your intake of certain foods may decrease general inflammation.

Increasing your intake of other foods and nutrients can also help reduce inflammation.

Getting ample amounts of calcium and other nutrients helps support bone growth and lessens the risk of fracture.

Maintaining a healthy mix of proteins and carbohydrates, while consuming ample amounts of omega 3 oils (fish oil), aids in muscle growth and joint support.

There are no specific foods that cause or cure arthritis, but certain foods may increase inflammation, which is involved in several forms of arthritis, while others may trigger arthritis symptoms in those who already have the disease. These foods include Nightshade Vegetables* (tomatoes, potatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, etc.), dairy products, sugar, salt, red meat, food additives and preservatives. Other foods thought to increase inflammation include cereal grains, omega-6 fatty acids and decaffeinated coffee.

What is the Link Between Diet, Being Overweight and Arthritis?

Being overweight puts extra stress on the joints, which increases the risk of wear-and-tear and cartilage damage. And because the pressure in the joints of the lower body is magnified by the force of impact when you’re moving about, every pound of weight you lose equates to a decrease in pressure of 3 to 6 pounds on your knees. In fact, losing as few as 11 pounds may cut your risk of developing knee osteoarthritis by 50 percent! In addition, losing weight can also reduce general inflammation in your body.2

The key to losing excess weight is permanently adopting healthy habits such as getting enough sleep every night, performing low-impact exercises daily, and consistently choosing nutrient-rich foods and supplements that help you maintain a healthy weight and fight inflammation.

The importance of achieving a healthy weight can’t be overestimated: according to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) if your BMI remains above the healthy range you are up to four times more likely to develop knee osteoarthritis than a normal-weight adult.

View the Body Mass Index chart

Will Changing my Diet Reduce Inflammation?

Inflammation is a localized reaction in the body to irritation, injury or infection. Symptoms of inflammation include pain, swelling, red coloration and warmth in the area, and sometimes a loss of movement or function. Since arthritis is often a disease of inflammation, a healthful diet should exclude inflammation-producing foods and include anti-inflammatory foods.

Which Foods Can Increase Inflammation or Trigger Joint Pain?

A number of foods may promote or increase inflammation. These include:

Junk Food/Fast Food. Cookies, candy, pies, French fries, hamburgers and other junk foods often have trans fats, saturated fats and other substances that may encourage inflammation within the body

Processed meats. Luncheon meat, hot dogs, sausages and other processed foods contain chemicals such as nitrites that are associated with increased inflammation and chronic disease.

Saturated fats. These are found naturally in meats, full-fat dairy products, eggs and other animal-based foods, as well as in junk food and fast food. While animal-based foods can be important sources of nutrients, most people don’t need the extra saturated fat. High-fat cuts of meat and full-fat dairy products also a contain fatty acid called arachidonic acid. While some arachidonic acid is essential for health, too much may increase inflammation.

Diets high in sugar. High-sugar diets have been associated with inflammation, obesity and chronic diseases such as diabetes. Eliminate high-sugar foods such as sugared sodas, soft drinks, pastries, pre-sweetened cereals, candy and sauces.

Nightshade Vegetables and Spices Increase Inflammation and Hinder Joint Health

“Nightshade” is the name used to describe over 2,000 kinds of plants that contain certain alkaloids with the potential to increase inflammation and impair joint function.

Nightshade vegetables contain an alkaloid called solanine, which seems to have a negative effect on the calcium balance in the body. Norman F. Childers, a former professor of Horticulture at Rutgers University in New Jersey and author of the book The Nightshades and Health, was an arthritis sufferer who noticed increased joint pain and stiffness after consuming tomatoes. After Childers eliminated all nightshade vegetables from his diet he found that his arthritis pain was eliminated. Childers concluded that, “Regular consumption of tomatoes, potatoes and eggplant is a primary cause of arthritis.” Childers suggested avoiding nightshade vegetables for a month to see if arthritis symptoms subside.

Researchers have also looked at whether nightshade alkaloids contribute to loss of calcium from bone and excessive depositing of calcium in soft tissue. For this reason, these researchers have recommended elimination of nightshade foods from the meal plans of all individuals with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or other joint problems like gout.

Foods That Can Decrease Inflammation and Joint Pain?

While foods cannot eliminate arthritis, they may help reduce the inflammation process. For this reason you should consider adopting a diet rich in low-fat, high-antioxidant foods and beverages, plus foods and supplements containing omega-3 fatty fish oil acids (such as salmon, mackerel and sardines).

A number of foods and nutrients have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, including:

Green tea. We prefer the Matcha Green Tea for its anti-oxidant properties (measured by its ORAC value), as well as its anti-inflammatory effects. Gram for gram, one glass of matcha is generally equivalent to 3 or more glasses of normal green tea in terms of EGCG content (EGCG is one of the key “active ingredients” in green tea).

Omega 3. The omega 3 fatty acids known as DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) are found in fish oil and fatty fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel and sardines. Plant sources of EPA and DHA include walnuts, flaxseed oil, ground flaxseed, breads and breakfast cereals containing flaxseed. Experts recommend using flaxseed oil (or olive oil) when cooking, instead of vegetable oil or butter, to avoid aggravating inflammation. Experts are also discovering the positive effect that supplementation with omega 3 can have on arthritis and joint pain.

Pomegranate. According to a study published in the Journal of Inflammation, pomegranate extract can reduce the levels of inflammation markers.4

Spices. Certain spices seem to have anti-inflammatory properties: among the most promising are ginger and turmeric. Ginger contains chemicals that work much like certain anti-inflammatory medications, and a study conducted by researchers from the University of Arizona found that ginger extracts had a “significant joint-protective” in an animal model of rheumatoid arthritis.5 Turmeric is an ancient spice, long used in traditional Asian medicine. A 2006 study published in Arthritis and Rheumatism found that turmeric extract reduced joint inflammation and destruction in animal studies of rheumatoid arthritis.6

Tart Cherry. Recent research presented in the Journal of Natural Products suggests that drinking a daily glass of tart cherry juice may help defuse arthritis pain. Researchers from Michigan State University found that anthocyanins, the same chemicals that give tart cherries their color, may have more powerful anti-inflammatory effects than aspirin.7

Vitamin C. Inflammation spurs the production of free radicals, unstable molecules that can damage cells and tissues in the joints and elsewhere. Antioxidants such as vitamin C, selenium and the carotenes help protect the body from the effects of free radicals. In particular, vitamin C preserves collagen, a major component of cartilage.

Fruits and Vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are a key part of a healthy diet. However, you may want to avoid those that can promote the inflammation response, including those belonging to the family known as Nightshade’s (such as potato, tomato and eggplant). On the positive side, Cherie Calbom, M.S., a certified nutritionist and co-author of Juicing for Life, notes that parsley, broccoli, carrots, spinach, apples and ginger root can be helpful in treating arthritis symptoms. She also recommends drinking pineapple juice, since it is the only source of the strong anti-inflammatory enzyme bromelain.8 Other juices said to help include bilberry, celery juice, green barley juice, aloe vera juice, and boswellia extract.

Benefits of Antioxidant-Rich Foods for Joint Pain and Arthritis

Antioxidants are substances that prevent or slow free radical damage to the body.

When body cells use oxygen, they naturally produce unstable molecules known as free radicals that can damage cells and tissues. Indeed, some experts feel that free radicals are involved in a host of diseases, from arthritis to cardiovascular disease to cancer.

Antioxidants act as free radical scavengers, “de-activating” these dangerous substances before they cause more damage. Many foods contain antioxidants, and these antioxidants contribute to the foods’ health-enhancing properties. Indeed, a study conducted by researchers from London found that five servings of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables a day reduced the risk of stroke by 25 percent.9 Antioxidants may also enhance immune defense, reduce inflammation and lower the risk of cancer and infection.

Fruits and vegetables that contain antioxidants include carrots, squash, broccoli, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, kale, collards and other dark leafy greens. Other antioxidant-containing foods include:

Green Tea as an Antioxidant

Scientific research in both Asia and the West is providing hard evidence supporting the idea that green tea is good for your health. For example, in 1994 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published a study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer by nearly sixty percent in Chinese men and women who neither smoked nor drank alcohol.10 And researchers from the University of Purdue found that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, and improves the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol.11

The secret to green tea is the fact that it’s rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This powerful antioxidant inhibits the growth of new cancer cells and kills existing cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It is also lowers bad (LDL) cholesterol levels and inhibits the abnormal formation of blood clots.

Drinking antioxidant-rich green tea is reputed to be a helpful adjunct to treatment in many medical conditions, including:

Cancer

Rheumatoid arthritis

Elevated cholesterol levels

Cardiovascular disease

Infection and impaired immune function

Omega 3 Fatty Oils, Arthritis and Joint Health

The omega 3 fatty acids known as DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) are found in fish oil and fatty fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel and sardines. Plant sources of EPA and DHA include walnuts, flaxseed oil, ground flaxseed, breads and breakfast cereals containing flaxseed. Experts recommend using flaxseed oil (or olive oil) when cooking, instead of vegetable oil or butter, to avoid aggravating inflammation. More and more evidence is also developing on the positive effect of omega 3 on joint and arthritis pain as well as overall health.

Olive Oil

Many people are aware of the fact that olive oil can help control cholesterol levels and may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, but most don’t realize that it may also be beneficial for those with arthritis.

Studies have shown that diets containing olive oil seem to have protective effects against certain forms of arthritis, and when olive oil is combined with fish oil, it relieves symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.12

Researchers have not determined exactly how olive oil guards the joints. Until they do, you can think of a joint as being like a creaking hinge. When you lubricate the problem area, it glides easily and without grating. Some health experts recommend consuming at least a tablespoon of olive oil each day to improve overall health.

Sample Daily Meal Plans

Getting all the healthy nutrients into your daily diet can be difficult if you eat out a lot or rely on packaged and/or processed foods at home. As a general rule, you’ll do better by eating at home often and consuming mostly fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and modest amounts of lean meat, fish, nuts and seeds. Eat your foods as close to their natural state as possible, with few preservatives or other additives. Here are a few menus and recipes to get you started.

Breakfast Options

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Research shows that people who skip breakfast are 5 times more likely to be obese.

Option 1

One cup of whole grain oatmeal with a tablespoon of chopped almonds and a sprinkle of powdered ginger.
Tropical chopped fruit salad with a cup of plain yogurt and papaya and/or pineapple.
Pineapple or other fruit juice, or JoMo Antioxidant Smoothie
One dose of JoMo Joint Mobility Liquid Glucosamine. [LOGO]
Omega 3 fatty oil supplement
Glass of green tea

Option 2

2 egg-white omelet with sautéed spinach
Soy yogurt
Bowl of mixed berries, including blueberries and strawberries.
Glass of fruit juice (pineapple or cherry) or JoMo Antioxidant Smoothie
Glass of green tea.
One dose of JoMo Joint Mobility Liquid Glucosamine. [LOGO]
JoMo Antioxidant Smoothie

Lunch and Dinner Options

Option 1

Grilled salmon salad, including baby spinach, carrots, low-calorie dressing and steamed asparagus, broccoli and winter squash.
Glass of pomegranate or vegetable juice.

Option 2

Tuna fish sandwich on flaxseed bread, with low-fat mayonnaise, lettuce, onions and a sprinkle of turmeric.
Choice of vegetable juice based on recommended (non-nightshade) vegetables.

Option 3

Two sushi rolls made from salmon and blue fin tuna with lots of ginger on the side.
Small side salad with leafy greens.
Glass of green tea or pomegranate juice.

Option 4

Grilled shrimp salad with one cup sliced cucumber, a cup of fresh salsa, two slices avocado and a cup mixed beans. Toss with olive oil and spinach leaves.

You can drink as much green tea as you like all day, as well as “non Nightshade” vegetable juices and other juices such as black cherry and pomegranate.

Shellfish, anchovies and sardines are also rich in omega 3 fatty oils and should be a regular, if modest, part of a healthy diet (unless you have a shellfish allergy)!

Remember: never skip meals, especially when you are on a weight management program. “Graze” by eating small meals throughout the day to manage your caloric intake and maintain a healthy weight.

“Antioxidant Smoothie”

This is without a doubt one of the best antioxidant smoothies you can make. It requires a little bit of preparation the night before but it’s worth it!

The night before:

Make a batch of green tea – enough to half fill a blender. About the equivilant of six tea bags. (Don’t use matcha; it’s too expensive. Instead, use an organic green tea base)

In the morning, combine:

The green tea

Half a cup of organic frozen blueberries

A tablespoon of omega-3 fatty acid oil

Half a serving of vanilla or blueberry soy yogurt

A serving of protein powder (we like chocolate protein powder!)

Half a banana

Some mango or other berries (frozen) if available

Blend together and drink throughout the morning at your leisure!

We promise you won’t be able to taste the omega 3 fatty acids in the smoothie. You can also add your daily dose of JoMo to the smoothie and get all your antioxidants at once!

© Harriet Beinfield LAc, Efrem Korngold LAc

What It Does
Chinese medicine is a complete medical system that has diagnosed, treated, and prevented illness for over twenty-three centuries. While it can remedy ailments and alter states of mind, Chinese medicine can also enhance recuperative power, immunity, and the capacity for pleasure, work, and creativity.

How It Thinks
Within Chinese Cosmology, all of creation is born from the marriage of two polar priciples, Yin and Yang: Earth and Heaven, winter and summer, night and day, cold and hot, wet and dry, inner and outer, body and mind. Harmony of this union means health, good weather, and good fortune, while disharmony leads to disease, disaster, and bad luck. The strategy of Chinese medicine is to restore harmony.

Each human is seen as a world in miniature, a garden in which doctor and patient together strive to cultivate health. Every person has a unique terrain to be mapped, a resilient yet sensitive ecology to be maintained. Like a gardener uses irrigation and compost to grow robust plants, the doctor uses acupuncture, herbs and food to recover and sustain health.

“I fell of a roof and was unable to walk without sevre pain. I was told I would have chronic arthritis for the rest of my life and never return to my ocupation as a roofer. After the third visit I experienced whole days without pain for the first time in six months. By the fifth visit I walked normally, without discomfort, and within a few weeks I returned to work.” – Angus McKenzie, age 36

Body Constituents (Qi, Moisture, Blood, Spirit, Essence)
Just as Nature contains air, sea, and land, the human body is comprised of Qi, (pronounced chee), Moisture, and Blood. Qi is the animating force that gives us our capacity to move, think, feel, and work. Moisture is the liquid medium which protects, nurtures, and lubricates tissue. Blood is the material foundation out of which we create bones, nerves, skin, muscles, and organs.

Human beings intermingle psyche and soma, Spirit (Shen) and Essence (Jing). Shenis the immaterial expression of the individual; and Essence represents the body’s reproductive and regenerative substance. Chinese medicine appreciates the impact of the unseen upon the visible. Even though it is impossible to touch or measure thoughts or emotions, they are acknowledged as inextricably linked to physiology.

“I was on a seasaw of anti-depressant and anti-anxiety drugs for years until I began acupuncture to stabalize my dosage levels. It occured to me that maybe I could use acupuncture to get off drugs altogether. I got three treatments a week for five months and I’m now free of two very addictive medicines, both of which were prescribed by psychiatrists. I’m relieved to feel back in control of my life again.”–Stphanie Mills, age 35

Organ Networks (Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lung, Kidney)
As Nature is organized by five primal powers- Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water- so the body is divided into five functional systems known as Organ Networks. These Networks govern particular tissues, mental faculties, and physical ativities by regulating and preserving Qi, Moisture, Blood, Spirit, and Essence

For example, the Kidney Network includes yet extends beyond the job of managing fluid metabolism which we in the West ordinarily associate with the kidneys. TheKidney stores the Essence responsible for reproduction, growth, and regeneration. It controls the treeth, bones, marrow, brain, inner ear, pupil of the eye, and lumbar region, and is associated with the emotion of fear, the will, and the capacity for sharp thinking and perception. So problems such as retarded growth, ringing in the ears, infertility, low back pain, paranoia, fuzzy thinking, weak vision, apathy, or dispair are veiwed as dysfunctions of the Kidney Network.

The Heart not only propels blood through the vessels, but harbors the Spirit and governs the mind. Symptoms as varied as anxiety, restless sleep, angina, and palpitations occur when the Heart is agitatied.

The Spleen is in charge of the assimliation of food and fluids, as well as ideas, so when this Network is disturbed, indigestion, bloating, fatigue, scattered thinking, and poor concentration ensue.

The Liver is responsible for the storage of Blood, flow of Qi, and eveness of temperament- so when the Liver is thwarted, tension in the neck and shoulders, high blood pressure, headaches, cramping, moodiness, and impulsive behavior may follow.

Through the breath, the Lung sets the body rhythm, defends its boundaries, and affords inspiration. A troubled Lung might trigger tightness in the chest, skin rashes, vulnerability to colds or flus, rigid thinking, or melancholy.

“Since my childhood I’d been dependent on inhailers and anti-asthma medicines. along with acupuncture treatments for six months, I eliminated spicy and cold foods from my diet. Now I can play basketball without needing bronchodilators and I only take medicine occasionally if I get a bad case of hayfever.”–Robbie Johnson, age 33

Body Climates (Wind, Dampness, Dryness, Heat, Cold)
In Nature, extreme wind, dampness, dryness, heat, and cold wreak havoc in the world. These same forces can derange balance within the human body, weakening or obstructing the movement of Qi in the organs. As winds shake the trees of the forest, dissasembling leaves and branches, internal Wind manifests as vertigo, unsteady movement, and trembling. As saturated earth generates swamps, so Dampnessbecomes phlegm and edema in the body. As aridity withers vegitation, so Drynesscauses chapping or cracking of mucus membranes. Just as ice inhibits the rush of water in a stream, so internal Cold retards circulation and depresses metabolism. And just as fire scorches the earth, so internal Heat may inflame tissue.

Health and Illness
Qi, Moisture, and Blood circulate within a web of pathways called channels that link together all parts of the organism. Health exists when adequate Qi, Moisture, andBlood flow smoothly. Symptoms as varied as joint pain, headache, anxiety, fatigue, menstrual cramps, high blood pressure, asthma, indigestion, and the common cold occur when thier circulation is disrupted.

All illness is understood as a consequence of either a depletion or a congestion of Qi, Moisture, and Blood. Depletionleads to weakness, lethargy, frequent illness, poor digestion, and inadequate blood flow. Congestion results in aches, tension, tenderness, pain, a distended abdomen, irritability, and swelling.

“My rash was red and itchy all over both legs. In the night I’d scratch and drive myself mad. I tried regular doctors and homeopathy-I tried everything. After six visits it was pretty much clear. then I tried to quit smoking. It’s been a year-and-a half since my last treatment and the rash hasn’t come back, and I haven’t smoked either”–Helena Muscal, age 22

Diagnosis
Practitioners assess a person’s health by feeling the pulsations at each wrist and by observing the color and form of the face, tongue, and body. This information is interpreted in the context of a patient’s present and past complaints, work and living habits, physical environment, family health history, and emotional life.

For example, if Max has red eyes, a yellow coating on his tongue, and a bounding pulse, this indicates Heat and congested Qi. He may be complaining of stomach pain, migraine, nausea, fever, or bronchitis. If Emma has pale lips, brittle hair, a thin pulse, and dry tongue, this suggests deficiency of Blood and Moisture, which undermines the function of the Liver, Heart, and Spleen. Her complaints may be that she feels tense, anxious, and irritable, has been unable to conceive, and has trouble with chronic fatigue, depression, or insomnia. Diagnosis is a way of understanding a problem within the categories of Chinese medicine.

Treatment
The goal of treatment is to adjust and harmonize Yin and Yang-wet and dry, cold and heat, inner and outer, body and mind. This is achieved by regulating the Qi, Moisture, and Blood in the Organ Networks: weak organs are tonified, congested channels are opened, excess is dispersed, tightness is softened, agitation is calmed, heat is cooled, cold is warmed, dryness is moistened, and dampness is drained.

Treatment may incorporate acupuncture, herbal remedies, diet, exercise, and massage. Duration of treatment depends on the nature of the complaint, its severity, and how long it has been present. Acupuncture is scheduled as often an three times a week or as little as twice a month. Response varies. some need only a few sessions while others need sustained care to reverse entrenched patterns established over time. As symptoms improve, fewer visits are required, individual progress being the yardstick.

“For three years I had no energy, no stamina. I had been diagnosed as both having the AIDS and Epstein-Barr viruses. With walking I got short of breath and felt pain in my chest. In the beginning, acupuncture made me feel spaced out and tired. After two months I felt more energetic, my digestion improved, and I wasn’t short of breath. After eight months of treatment combined with herbal tonics daily, I regained my strength and returned to work and a more normal life-style. It’s been six months since my last treatment but I won’t hesitate to rely on acupuncture if I start feeling sick again.”–Frank Bell, age 31

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is based on the assumption that Qi courses through the body just as streams and rivers ebb and flow across the surface of the earth. Every Organ Networkhas a corresponding set of channels. The acupuncture points are located in small depressions int the skin called “men” or “gates” where the channels come closest to the surface. In ancient times, when cities were fortified by walls, gates were opened to recieve sustenance and closed to keep harm away. With acupuncture, the gates of the body are opened and closed to adjust circulation in the channels and expel noxious influences from them.

Thin, solid, sterile stainless steel acupuncture needles are inserted into acupuncture points to communicate from the outside to the inside. Acupuncture mobilizes Qi, Moisture, Blood, invigorating proper function of the muscles, nerves, vessels, glands, and organs.

“For months my blood pressure was so high that I was dizzy all the time and couldn’t stand up. I was frightened because it was barely under control with medication. Within 48 hours after one of my acupuncture treatments, the pressure dropped so low that my doctor had to take me off medication. It remained normal and I can walk around now without feeling dizzy”–Esther Zipin, age 88

How It Feels
Insertion of the needles goes unnoticed by some, and to others feels like a small pinch followed by a sensation of tingling, numbness, ache, traveling warmth, or heaviness. Sometimes people feel Qi moving at distance from the point of insertion. Needles remain in place for twenty to forty minutes. Usually relaxation and an elevation of spirit accompanies treatment. It is as normal to want to continue resting as it is to be immediately energized. Some notice a relief of symptoms or feel more energetic in the days that follow treatment. Most people are pleased to find that sessions are not uncomfortable and even look forward to them.

“I had been diagnosed as having chronic prostitis and urethritis which antibiotics hadn’t helped long-term. After ten acupuncture treatments my difficult urination and painful ejaculations disappeared.”–Emillio Perez, age 51

What Acupuncture Can Treat
It would be most accurate to say that acupuncture treats disorders of Qi, Blood, and Moisture, and disturbances of the Organ Networks-but this does not correspond to the Western vocabulary of named diseases and conditions. Acupuncture may be helpful for: Withdrawl from addictions such as sugar, coffee, cigatettes, alcohol, and cocaine; stress reduction; post surgical recovery; chronic fatigue; the signs of aging; and decreased immunity. Some of the many conditions for which acupuncture is considered appropriate are listed by the World Health Organization of the United Nations:

Infections
colds and flu
bronchitis
hepatitis

Internal

Herbal Remedies and Supplements
Herbal medicine is itself a powerful method of healing. Western drugs often control symptoms, but do not alter the disease process ( antibiotics eliminate bacteria but do not improve a person’s resistance to infection; diuretics fid excess fluid without improving kidney function). Chinese herbs treat the underlying condition as defined by traditional diagnosis, and rarely cause unwanted side-effects.

Just as soil becomes depleted through overuse, so the Qi, Moisture, Blood are eroded by overwork, emotional tension, mental strain, too much or too little exercise, and inadequate diet or rest, impairing the capacity of the Organ Networks to do thier jobs.

“The sniffles, scratchy throat, and headache that I expected would blossom into a full-fledged cold never did. Herbs cleared me right up.”–Jake Talman, age 28

How Herbs Work
Since fatigue results from a lack of Qi, herbs that nourish the Qi have an energizing effect. Since blurry vision, restless sleep, and irritability result from depleted Blood, Blood-enriching herbs improve vision, sleep, and equanimity. Since dry skin and dehydration arise from insufficient Moisture, herbs that replenish it soften the skin and relieve an otherwise unquenchable thirst.

Herbs assist the Organ Networks in the performance of thier tasks. Particular herbs enhance the capacity of the Heart to propel the blood and soothe the mind, the Spleen to manage digestion and fluid equillibrium, the Lung to handle respiration and body’s defenses the Liver to maintain resillient emotions an supple limbs, and Kidney to sustain sexual and regenerative power. Some herbal formulas address ailments such as colds, allergies, inflammations, or cramps with dramaic and immediate results, while others fortify body reserves over time.

For example, Jake’s stuffy head and cloudy senses are relieved by herbs that dispel Heat and Wind. Herbs that strengthen the Lung and Qi will increase his resistance to colds and flus. Kate experiences menstural distress as a result of congested Qi, Moisture, Blood in the abdomen-a traffic jam that results in sore and swollen tissue, a puffy face, irritability, lethargy, and cramps. Herbs that invigorate her circulation can dislodge the pile-up, relieving her symptoms.

Linda is concerned about the signs of aging that occur as Essence and Blood diminish. Herbs that nourish the Kidney and Liver replenishEssence and Blood so that healthy bones, supple skin, shiny hair, and an even temperament prevail while the fading of sexuality or hot flashes are prevented.

“I stopped estrogen replacement therapy because of the side effects-bruising and water retension-but I was desparate for help with my irritable mood swings and hot flashes. Acupuncture plus herbs helped me tremendously. Now, three months later, I feel fantastic-much better than I did on estrogen.”–Julia Wisner, age 56

Formulas Combine Benefits
Chinese herbs are usually combined in formulas to enhance thier properties and actions.Symptoms and signs are matched with therapeutic effects, reflecting the particular conditions and needs of each patient. Tonic formulas restore eroded body resourses; regulating formulas decongest the Qi, Moisture, and Blood , relieving discomfort; and purging formulas eliminate adverse climates, inviting clear weather.

Formulas are available in a variety of forms: crude herbs to be boiled into tea, liquid bottled extracts, ground herbs packaged in pills, and powders. Herbs, more like foods than drugs, can suppliment our diet and fortify our constitution as well as prevent or remedy ailments. Sometimes long-term use of herbs is desireable whereas extended use of pharmaceuticals would not be healthy.

“Tommy missed a lot of school due to perpetual ear and sinus infections. Changes in his diet along with acupuncture and herbs has made him more resilient than his friends, and his learning disabilities also faded away.”–Tommy Hansen, age 7

How Western and Chinese Medicine Differ
Because Chinese medicine views people as ecosystems in miniature, it seeks to improve our capacity to balance and renew our resources. Chinese medicine can minimize the erosion of our soil by enriching it, maximize the flow of nutrients by increasing circulation, and help prevent bottlenecks that obstruct movement.

Often Western medicine intervines only after crisis arise, whereas Chinese medicine anticipates problems by sustaining our interior landscape. By correcting depletion and stagnation at earlier stages, greater problems later on are avoided.

Sometimes Western medicine has nothing to offer for nagging chronic complaints that Chinese medicine can help. The two are not a substitute for each other. They are often complementary. Whereas Western medicine may heroically rescue us, Chinese medicine can protect and preserve our health day to day.

Regulation of Practice
The regulation of health care practices differs from state to state. Since 1976 California has licensed qualified acupuncturists as primary care providers through its Board of Medical Quality Assurance. Safe an effective practice standards have beed established by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncturists (NCCA). All practitioners certified by this Commission or the state comply with strict requirements for sterile needles. Many health insurance policies elect to cover acupuncture treatment.

“As a result of chemotherapy, I suffered mild heart failure and kidney shut-down, preventing me from qualifying for another series of chemo treatments. Three weeks after I began acupuncture and herbal therapy, I stopped being short of breath and my kidney funtion labs improved dramatically. My oncologists were very impressed.”–Barbara Landin, age 34

Natural Pain Relief: CAM: What is Complimentary and Alternative Medicine?

Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Many Americans utilized this form of medicine in their search for health and well being. Studies show that about 38% of American adults use this type of medicine. This is a very broad field and it’s ever changing and is considered a diverse group of medical and Healthcare Systems, practices, and products that would otherwise not be considered conventional medicine. Complementary medicine is referring to the use of conventional methods alongside alternative methods such as acupuncture to help with pain relief. Majority of Americans utilize this system in its complimentary form. The alternative side of CAM is in reference to using alternative medicine in place of conventional medicine. Integrated medicine combines the two. CAM is often split up into broad groups ranging from natural products, mind and body medicine, and manipulative and body based practices. Some of these can fit into more than one group. The different categories within CAM are not official or formal but make it easier when discussing practices. CA M’s natural products include a wide variety of herbal remedies, vitamins, minerals and other natural products. Many of these are considered dietary supplements and can be bought over the counter without prescription. Within this group there is also probiotics. Probiotics are live microorganisms similar to what you would find in a human’s digestive system. These are thought to be highly beneficial. These are found inside yogurt and other foods and you can also find them in some dietary supplements. In general people who turned to natural products are trying to improve their health and physical condition. Some of the products within the natural products category can also be effective as natural pain relief.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yuX3UOJpM8

The mind and body medicine category uses the theory that through brain mind body and behavior you can affect physical well being and health. Some of these treatments would include things like meditation. This is the use of postures and focused attention to promote relaxation and calmness within oneself, to create a psychological balance, within the mind and within the psyche. This also helps people to cope with the stress of illness. It is meant to bring them comfort and peace within themselves. Yoga is an example of this. Acupuncture is a procedure of penetrating the skin with needles to stimulate certain points of the body. Many people believe this to be very helpful for pain relief. This practice originated in ancient China and is one of the oldest healing practices in the world. This category would also include deep breathing exercises, hypnotherapy and Tai Chi. The Chinese believed that the mind was an important part of the healing process. That through the mind you could heal illnesses and create pain relief. The next category is manipulative and body based practices. This category is focused on the basic structures and systems of the body such as bones, joints, soft tissues, and circulatory and lymphatic systems. Spinal manipulation would be a practice of professionals such as chiropractors, osteopathic Physicians and physical therapists. Also in this category is massage therapy. There are several techniques that practitioners use but in general a press and rub the muscles within our bodies. This stimulates the body to create natural endorphins for pain relief, for stress relief, relaxation in general well being.

CAM also encompasses several other practices such as movement therapies, guided imagery, hypnotherapy, progressive relaxation, traditional healers and some practices that manipulate energy fields to affect the health of the patient. These energy therapies believe that you can focus your energy to another person and create healing with touch or non hands on healing e.g. reiki. A final category is called whole Medical Systems. These are entire theory systems from different cultures outside of western medicine that had evolved over time. Included in these practices is Ayurvedic medicine and different forms of traditional Chinese medicine. As with most nonconventional medicine research is lacking and therefore theories are uncertain. All medicine conventional or nonconventional has risk and CAM is included in that. If you’re interested in getting involved in the CAM after doing research choose carefully a medical provider for yourself or your family. Find out what their experience is and if they have any formal training. As with anything else you want to make sure that you are choosing a competent and experience provider before you put your health and their hands. Many of these alternative medicine auctions are based on deep understanding of the human body as well as using a scientific approach for using herbs to create medications. Ayurveda focuses on the creating a balance within oneself and within one’s body to cure pain relief by focusing on the cause of this disease not just the symptoms because of the disease. Conventional medicine does not yet except this as a medical procedure though it is considered medical science. It focuses on whenever imbalances the body may have that created the illness or disease. This practice originated in India but its popularity dropped between 1850 and 1970. That popularity is seen a comeback however after nearly two centuries of almost nonexistence. However with the popularity being gained it is moved from just being practiced in India to being practiced all over the world. NCCAM’s has a primary goal to determine the usefulness of complementary and alternative medicines and to figure out their roles in improving Health Care. Through clinical research and education NCCAM will achieve this goal.

Natural pain relief comes in many forms so fortunately we had several alternatives to pain medications and invasive treatments. When over the counter medications or prescribed medications don’t cut it where else can you turn? From herbs to different techniques involving meditation and use of your mind, you can bring out the remarkable healing powers of your brain. These natural remedies offer treatments for conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, and even muscle strain. It is believed that these natural remedies help you to lead a healthier, happier and pain free life.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-WkX_yvXbs

Capsaicin is used for arthritis, shingles, or neuropathy. This is an active component in Chile pepper. It is said that it will desensitize pain prone nerve receptors. This is said to last between three and five weeks. Arthritis sufferers: 40% say their pain was cut in half after applying the topical cream with this ingredient. Neuropathy sufferers: 60% say this same after two months. Some headache patients say that the intensity of their migraine headaches and cluster headaches decreases when they apply is topical cream to the inside of their noses. You can find these creams that provide you with natural pain relief in Health Stores and pharmacies. Infla Thera or Zyflamend is used for arthritis. Both of these contain ginger, turmeric and holy basil which contain anti-inflammatory properties. This works well with rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. Arnica is used to reduce swelling in the knees after surgery or two decrease pains after a tonsillectomy. This herb, from a European flower, has anti-inflammatory properties.

Aquamin is used for osteoarthritis. This is a supplement from red seaweed that contains magnesium and is rich in calcium. Early studies show that it reduces joint inflammation and made build bone. Studies show that those who use this there pain was reduced by 20% in a month. SAM-e is used for osteoarthritis. This natural pain relief remedy comes from a naturally occurring amino acid and you can find it in capsule form. Is good for the reduction of inflammation and reduces pain. Studies show that this is good at easing osteoarthritis aches and can relieve pain up to 50% within two months of use. There’ve been no cardiovascular risk found with the use of this remedy, and unlike most pain medications there are fewer stomach problems involved. Fish oil is used for joint pain from arthritis and autoimmune disorders. The body has the hormone like chemicals called prostaglandins that reduce inflammation. Fish oil mimics these. Rheumatoid arthritis patients are able to greatly decrease the amount of pain medications they ingest by taking codfish oil on a daily basis. Methylsufonyl-methane is used for osteoarthritis. Comes from sulphur helps to prevent joints and cartilage the generation. This helps patients with osteoarthritis of the knee by providing pain relief and helping with better physical function.

Many people do not like having to take narcotic medications or simply any medications and all. So they go in search of natural pain remedies to give them a healthier alternative to medications that any doctor may prescribe. These alternatives are much better for your body and help you to become healthier. This is increasingly becoming a more popular way to manage your pain relief. Studies on herbal and natural pain relief are still in the early stages so it is important that you are careful when you decide to use natural remedies instead of prescriptions that doctor has given you. There is potential for allergic reactions, unwanted side effects, and possibly interactions with other drugs or substances that you may be taking. These herbs are not benign so you must exercise caution when you choose this treatment path. Research is ongoing and knowledge of the safety of such remedies is limited and still widely questioned. You should always talk to your doctor before you begin taking in treating yourself with herbal remedies.

Herbal remedies have specific ingredients that help the body to address pain. As we have all experienced pain in some form or other throughout our lives we all know how unpleasant and debilitating pain can be. It is caused when an electrical signal is sent from your nerves through the nervous system and into the brain. When injured the area affected releases chemicals known as prostaglandins. These chemicals create swelling and increase the electrical signal that is coming from the nerves therefore increasing the amount of pain that you feel. Pain relievers block certain receptors in the brain that it stops the nerve endings, the nervous system as well as your brain from allowing your body to feel pain. Usually pain is the body’s way of letting you know that something is wrong. Someone should experience the initial pain you can try and fix whatever the problem may be. Pain medications stop your body from releasing prostaglandin so that the brain does not realize there’s pain. However once you stop taking the medications the pain returns. And with this there is an increased risk of addiction. Seeking natural pain relief can help you to avoid all of these unwanted side effects and risks attributed to medications. Natural pain relief has many other techniques that can be used besides herbal remedies. It is always important to look into what options are available and studying, researching and finding the best avenue of treatment that is right for you.

The Arthritis Pain Relief is applied directly to the painful location by rubbing the product on the skin. What worries a lot of people is the fact that they don’t know the difference between arthritis pain and the simple muscle aches and pains. Understand that pain relief gels target different parts of your body and make sure you don’t use ben-gay on arthritis joint pain because it targets muscles aches and pains, not arthritis pain. These products are rubbed onto the skin for arthritis pain relief, which means the deliverability of pain relief will be much faster than trying to swallow a pill and waiting for your digestive system to distribute it to the needed areas. The skin will absorb the cream and allow it to penetrate into deeper layers which then are absorbed into the blood stream. Immune cells are provoked into the area by pro-inflammatory cytokines and certain prostaglandins. These compounds cause the destruction of joint tissue by boosting the production of enzymes and cells which break down the tissue. Scientists consider free radicals to play a part in the process since pro-inflammatory cytokines cause the release of these destructive molecules.

counterbalance free radicals

assist in healing blood vessels, muscle tissues and cartilage

lower inflammation

reduce stiffness and aches connected to joint pain.

Many chronic pain sufferers wind up taking huge amounts of anti-inflammatory drugs. The NSAID’S (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like ibuprofen put them at risk for gastro-intestinal bleeding and liver dysfunction, and the newer class of pharmaceutical pain relievers, the COX-2 inhibitors, while an improvement in terms of side effects, still may cause some abdominal distress. Anti-inflammatory drugs, including aspirin and Aleve, were implicated in the deaths of 16,000 people in the USA in 2000, due to bleeding ulcers and related complications, according to the Federal Drug Abuse Network. Pain may arouse fear, sadness, irritation, moderate depression and decrease one’s ability to give and hold attention. There are a wide variety of natural supplements and formulas to help increase oxygen and serotonin to our brain to help us remain calm and alert. A safer option for society’s pain relief is the variety of all natural products. These all natural products aid in Arthritis Pain Relief for muscle and joint pain, as well as relax the body for a general improvement of the body and soul. Some examples of natural pain relief products are vitamins, supplements, herbs, ointments, creams and even bath formulas to reduce inflammation.

Relaxation Techniques

Relaxation exercises calm your mind, reduce stress hormones in your blood, relax your muscles, and elevate your sense of well-being for a natural Arthritis Pain Relief. Using them regularly can lead to long-term changes in your body to counteract the harmful effects of stress. Don’t get stressed trying to pick the “right” relaxation technique for natural pain relief. Choose whatever relaxes you: music, prayer, gardening, going for a walk, talking with a friend on the phone. Here are some other techniques you might try. Foursquare breathing you’ll want to breathe deeply, so that your abdomen expands and contracts like a balloon with each breath. Inhale to a count of four, hold for a count of four, exhale to a count of four, then hold to a count of four. Repeat for ten cycles. Guided imagery you’ll want to try to breathe slowly and deeply. For example, imagine a tranquil scene in which you feel comfortable, safe, and relaxed. Include colors, sounds, smells, and your feelings. Do five to ten minutes each day. Change how you think about your pain and yourself. For example, change “Pain prevents me from keeping house the way I used to — I’m a failure” to “No one will die if the house isn’t perfect. I can get a lot done by breaking down tasks into baby steps.” Hypnotherapists can induce hypnosis and implant suggestions, such as, “You’re going to sleep soundly tonight.” Audiotape the session so that you can repeat it at home. Sit or lie quietly and notice your breathing without controlling it. If pain or thoughts interfere, simply notice them without trying to push them away. Think of them as a cloud passing over; then return to observing your breath. Do this for about 20 minutes.

Shingles Pain Relief: How is the Immune System Compromised?

Are you one of the millions of people suffering from the pain of a herpes zoster outbreak? Herpes zoster is the wrath of chickenpox, otherwise known as shingles that affects millions of people in the US every year. Shingles is a painful red rash that turns into blisters that leak a clear fluid when the blister breaks open. Shingles is caused by the same virus as chickenpox. The varicella zoster virus (VZV) stays dormant in the body after a chickenpox infection, which usually occurs in children. If your immune system becomes compromised later in life, this could result in reactivation of the virus, resulting in a painful case of shingles zoster. Shingles is basically another form of the Chicken Pox, only it is much stronger and more potent. For people who’ve contacted the Chicken Pox in childhood and were not vaccinated, there are high chances of recurrence in the later stages of life, and it will appear as Shingles. This virus is known for its ability to stay dormant for years and resurface once the body’s defenses slow down. As soon as symptoms start to manifest, such as multiple rashes around the torso, back, neck and face – immediately seek medical attention & Shingles Pain Relief. Symptoms starting on the face and spread to the eyes are very sensitive, which if not treated immediately can cause blindness.

Prolonged stress, anti-rejection medications, as well as HIV/AIDS and chemotherapy all can be an assault on the immune system causing the virus to come alive with a vengeance. The result is extreme pain and discomfort to the victim. It can start and burning and tingling on the skin that appears to come out of nowhere for no reason. VSV travels along the nerve route or dermatome and shows up on one side of the body. This is one way that shingles is distinguished from varicella (shingles). Discomfort due to herpes zoster can be debilitating, requiring pain medication and antivirals to manage the symptoms. Antivirals need to be taken within 72 hours of onset of symptoms. The pain can last up to six months, and in many cases is chronic lasting for years. You’ll want to find Shingles Pain Relief. Shingles is less infectious than chicken pox because the virus is not airborne. Still, the virus can be transmitted by direct contact. When you have shingles, you should avoid contact with anyone who has not had chicken pox. Wait until the blisters are crusted over, which usually takes four or five days. If you do happen to infect someone, though, the person will develop chicken pox rather than shingles. Shingles is a painful disease that often affects adults over the age of 50. However everyone can be at risk of having an outbreak. Learning more about the Shingles disease and your options for treatments for shingles can help you become more informed in order to make wise decisions about your health.

Discomfort due to herpes zoster can be debilitating, requiring pain medication and antivirals to manage the symptoms. Skin should be kept clean and you should avoid reusing contaminated items, e.g. clothes. Also non-disposable items should be washed in boiling water or otherwise disinfected before reuse. It is quite probable that the person may have to be isolated to prevent infection of others, especially to pregnant women. As soon as you control these shingles symptoms, you will discover how much less you are likely to suffer from them. You can also protect the affected area by wrapping it with an elastic bandage. This will prevent anything from touching or rubbing against the blistered skin. Just be sure the bandage is tight. If it is loose, it will irritate the blisters. Be sure to place a non-adhesive gauze pad over the blisters before wrapping. If you can’t wrap the affected area, coating gauze with petroleum jelly, then taping it over the blisters. Some people find Shingles Pain Relief with topical medications. The topical PRM is often effective in controlling pain and can be applied while sores are still active.

When shopping for an Arthritis Pain Relief, take careful note of the active ingredient found on the label of the product or in the ingredients section of the website if you are shopping online. The active ingredient is primarily what makes the product relieve the arthritis pain, though some of the inactive ingredients can do so as well. There are two common reasons we suffer from pain. The first is lack of circulation and the second is inflammation. When this unique formulation is applied to the skin, it is quickly absorbed and causes the underlying blood vessels to dilate. This permits more oxygen and nutrients to flow through the blood vessels and at the same time it takes out the poison and toxins. Almost immediately the muscles are relaxed and the pain is reduced or eliminated. When the circulation system is working properly we are normally in good health. Inflammation is the most common reason we suffer from pain. If a product can get rid of inflammation, pain is eliminated. That’s exactly what PainReliefMiracle does. It increases circulation, reduces inflammation and relaxes the muscles which in turn reduces or eliminates pain.

You’re in pain, and ibuprofen just won’t cut it. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, don’t agree with your stomach, and you’re wary of stronger meds. Fortunately, you have alternatives — natural ones. From herbs that attack inflammation to techniques that leverage the brain’s remarkable healing powers, nature offers many treatments for conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, and even muscle strains. From herbs that attack inflammation to techniques that leverage the brain’s remarkable healing powers, nature offers many treatments for conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, and even muscle strains. Some people use pain pills unfortunately pain medications are chemicals that have numerous side effects and adverse reactions including but not limited to stomach irritation, allergic reactions, addiction, nausea, depression, drowsiness, circulatory issues that have caused strokes and heart attacks. Pain pills simply lower one’s awareness of the pain and have dangerous side effects. They also lower one’s awareness of life without having any beneficial effect on the cause of the pain PRM improves circulation so the body’s natural healing properties are enhanced. Safe and continued use results in an improvement in the condition naturally for Arthritis Pain Relief.

Many of the creams for arthritis pain relief contain capsaicin. This is the compound found in all hot peppers and causes the burning affect. This ingredient is irritating to all mammals, including humans, and produces a burning sensation when in contact with skin. It is this burning affect that covers up the pain. The amount of burning varies from person to person. If you have sensitive skin, stay away from arthritis pain products containing capsaicin! Methyl salicylate and trolamine salicylate are also common active ingredients of Arthritis Pain Relief products. These salicylic acid compounds are chemically similar to the active ingredient of aspirin. If you are allergic to aspirin, you need to consult a physician before using products containing salicyclic acids. Methyl salicylate is sometimes used as a mint in various chewing gums and candies, as an alternative to peppermint and spearmint oils. Creams using this ingredient will usually exhibit a minty odor. It was discovered that an all-natural liquid made from artemisia leaf, myrrha, safflower, frankincense, cinnamon, Chinese wild ginger, sichuan lovage rhizome, pseudoginseng, rhubarb, clove, corydalis, phellodendron, lotus water and ethyl alcohol. This formula not only removed the creator’s arthritic mother’s pain but it actually healed the tendons in her hands. Imagine what this product can do for a simple headache! You may be tempted to try and get these herbs on your own; however getting the right doses can be very tricky. The smarter choice is Pain Relief Miracle, which is an all-natural herbal spray that can actually solve the source of pain, without masking it. This is because of the careful combination of herbs. In regards to you headache pain it can provide relief in two different ways. First of all, it can be used as a type of aromatherapy which will go far in giving you relief. Second, using this spray can also help get circulation back to running smoothly.

One of the more common active ingredients in arthritis creams is menthol. Menthol is an organic compound obtained from peppermint or other mint oils and can be made synthetically. It has local anesthetic or numbing properties due to its cooling sensation when applied to the skin. Just as capsaicin, it covers up the pain. Menthol products usually exhibit a strong, mint odor. Camphor, another frequent ingredient in Arthritis Pain Relief products, is a waxy, white or transparent solid with a very strong, aromatic odor. Camphor is readily absorbed through the skin and produces a feeling of cooling, similar to that of menthol, and acts as slight local anesthetic. As you have read, many of the active ingredients contained in arthritis relief creams have undesirable properties such as skin irritation and strong odors. Do not be discouraged! There are a few products available that use none of the above ingredients and provide arthritis pain relief with no odor, no burning or skin irritation, no greasy residue and no staining of the clothing. Natural pain relief and traditional medicine don’t have to stand in opposition. Leopold has some patients who take a daily pain supplement like turmeric for pain.
